First Quarter Update
Despite the absence of catastrophic upsets in the league through the first quarter of the season, the number of players in our 2nd Annual Austin Hardware Charity Football Pool has already been cut by down by two-thirds.
Here are just a few weekly highlights:
In Week #1 eleven players were eliminated. The biggest chunk came on opening night of the season when several players seemed to believe that Trevor Siemian would not be a good enough replacement for the retired Peyton Manning to prevent the visiting Carolina Panthers from avenging their Super Bowl loss to the Broncos. But Siemian was indeed good enough, and Denver’s D picked up where it left off in February, knocking off the Panthers and eliminating 4 of our players from the get-go.
In Week #2 nine more players were eliminated, four of whom when Tennessee spoiled Detroit’s home opener with a 16-15 comeback victory over Lions. This result was surprising in that it just about mirrored a comeback victory the Lions pulled off just a week earlier at Indianapolis.
Things settled down a bit in Week #3, which saw only 4 total players eliminated. The surprise of the week took place in Philadelphia where the Eagles dominated the Pittsburgh Steelers, 34-3, in a battle of cross-state rivals.
Week #4 also saw a total of 4 players eliminated thanks to losses by Arizona, Baltimore, and Indianapolis.
First Quarter of the Season by the numbers:
41 players entered our pool
